J. Mourat covers 160 hectares planted on hillsides of the Fiefs Vendéens, overlooking the Lay valley in Vendée. A land of contrasts, cradle of the Mourat family, passed down from father to son. We attach great importance to looking after our vines so that they give their best. We have set up cultivating techniques and improved them year after year. On the estate, we pay close attention to organic agriculture and biodynamics which are the drivers of our team: it is our way to meet the daily needs of the vine and obtain optimal quality of the grape. The objective: to make excellent but unadorned wines. What makes the Fiefs Vendéens and in particular the vineyard special is undoubtedly its unique terroir. based on multicultural grape varieties which combine South-West varieties (Négrette, Cabernet Sauvignon) with ones from the Loire Valley (Pinot Noir, Chenin, Cabernet Franc). The commune of Mareuil-sur-Lay is located on a very old geological fracture at the crossroads of three ecosystems : the Plain of Luçon (plains), the Marais Poitevin (marshland) and the Bocage Vendéen. The terroirs are made of schist and rhyolite hillsides under maritime influence.
