We produce the most western wines of the Loire, with a marked oceanic influence, with 12 grape varieties in organic farming
Since 2000, Domaine de la Coche has belonged to two cousins Emmanuel and Laurent Guitteny, who combine the family wine tradition with recent techniques and their know-how. The climate being oceanic, the vines benefit from the mildness and the Lake of Grandlieu protects them from heavy precipitation. “We exploit several types of soil, to which we have adapted the grape varieties according to their potential.” The sandy-gravelly terroirs, where the soil is entirely covered with small white pebbles, thus allowing heat and light to reverberate on the grapes for perfect maturity. Shale terroirs, letting the roots go down deep, following the faults in the rock to recover mineral salts and trace elements. Gneiss terroirs, bringing an original mineral richness to the wines. The sandy clay terroirs, interesting for the rapid maturation of the grapes. "The 37-hectare estate is in the process of converting to organic farming. The flagship appellation is Muscadet Côtes de Grandlieu, but we give pride of place to the local grape varieties Grolleau, Grolleau Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon or Gamay. Our wines are regularly recognized for their quality in national or international competitions. Organic culture We're exhibiting at
